Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
